Questions to ask a driving instructor in New Zealand
Licence stage, car type, test booking and pickup. A short list before you pay for a package.
Driving instructors on FindTutor are public listings, not staff. You still interview them. Use Driving lessons in New Zealand to find people in your city, then ask the questions below before you buy a block of hours.
Before the first lesson
- Which NZTA stage do you teach: learner, restricted or full?
- Automatic, manual, or both?
- Do you pick up from home or school, and is that included?
- How long is a lesson, and what do you charge if we cancel?
- Do you sit in the car for the practical test, and how is that booked?
Safety and the vehicle
Ask whether the car is dual control, whether they are a current NZTA approved instructor, and how they handle a nervous learner. A parent should know the pickup plan for a young driver. FindTutor does not check instructor licences. If the answers are vague, keep looking.
If you need more than a car
Motorcycle, forklift and heavy vehicle training are listed as their own subjects. Do not assume a car instructor covers those. Open the matching subject page and search the city again.
