Parent’s checklist before hiring a tutor

A practical list covering goals, location, cost, and first-meeting logistics.

Use this checklist before you reveal a phone number on FindTutor or visit a studio.

  1. Write the subject, year level and the actual problem (for example “Level 1 algebra internals”, not “maths”).
  2. Decide in-person only, or hybrid. Search the matching city page.
  3. Shortlist three tutors who show a photo if you can — it is easier to recognise them at a hall.
  4. Ask about price, session length, cancellation, and travel fees.
  5. Ask where lessons happen and who else will be present.
  6. Ask about police vetting and references if the student is a child.
  7. Agree a trial lesson before a term package.
  8. Keep a parent or caregiver involved for under-18s.

Listings can be out of date. If a number does not answer, try the original listing link on the profile or another tutor on the same city page.
